This Christmas Eve marks 25 years since a heart-wrenching tragedy stole the light of a young mother’s life.
In the silent early morning hours of December 24, 2000, near Crown Ave. and El Monte St. in Stockton, 20-year-old Sophia Ulloa, a devoted single mother who worked overtime to fill her car with Christmas gifts for her precious 4-year-old daughter, was brutally stabbed to death. Her desperate cries for help pierced the night, awakening her family…but help arrived too late.
She died beside the very presents meant to bring joy on Christmas morning.
A light-colored Ford Thunderbird or Mercury Cougar was seen fleeing the scene. A $50,000 reward remains for information leading to arrest and conviction.
District Attorney Ron Freitas stated: “For every family still waiting, this is my pledge: we won’t stop until justice is served.”
Sophia’s daughter, her family, and her community still wait for closure. Let this be the year truth emerges from the shadows.
Justice delayed is not justice denied.
